About TypeBurst
A fast, free typing test with nothing standing between you and the keyboard.
Who makes it
TypeBurst is built and maintained by FusionStudios, a web design studio in the Netherlands, as one of a set of small, fast, single-purpose web tools. There is no separate company behind the name and no editorial team: "the TypeBurstteam" in a byline means the people at FusionStudios who write and maintain these pages. We would rather say that plainly than invent an author who does not exist.
The site went live on 3 July 2026. What changed since, and when, is on the changelog, including which changes affected how a score is calculated.
Why it exists
Checking your typing speed should take seconds, not a sign up flow. Open the page, pick a duration, start typing. There is no account to create, nothing to install, no trial, no upsell and no email step anywhere, including on the printable result record.
The second reason is narrower and it is the one worth reading. Typing tests disagree with each other by more than ten words per minute on identical typing, and almost none of them say how they count. That is not a small detail if you are about to sit an employment assessment. So this site publishes its rules in full on the methodology page, with a version number, and shows every finished run as gross WPM, net WPM and keystrokes per hour rather than one number with no definition.
How it is paid for
It is not. TypeBurst carries no advertising, no affiliate links, no sponsorship and no paid tier, and it earns nothing. It costs very little to run, because it is a static site with no server doing work on your behalf, and FusionStudios absorbs that cost as part of maintaining its own tools. The only commercial interest anywhere on the site is the studio credit, which is on this page, the embed page and the changelog, and never on a page where you are trying to take a test.
What is measured, and what is not
Your score is calculated in your browser. Your personal best per duration and a history of your finished runs are stored in that same browser, and you can chart, export, import or delete them on the progress page. Nothing is uploaded: there is no server that receives a score, so there is no database of results, no leaderboard and no percentile.
That last point is a real limitation and it is worth naming rather than hiding. Other typing tests can tell you that you are faster than 82 percent of their visitors. This one cannot, because it never collected the scores that would make such a figure true. Where a percentile would go, published research goes instead, and every figure on the average typing speed page is traceable to the study it came from.
